Valentin Hadjadj first came to the Festival in 2011 to participate in the Master Class for musical composition for image, led by Charles Papasoff. In 2013, he came back and met Lukas Dhont during a workshop that would later become the European Market for film composition. He then composed the music for Lukas’ first three short films, and his feature film Girl. More recently, he composed the music for Close.

Valentin Hadjadj has composed the music for several feature films such as Close (Grand Prix Cannes 2022, nominated for the Oscar and Golden Globes) and Girl by Lukas Dhont (Caméra d'or at the Cannes Film Festival in 2018), Rialto by Peter Mackie Burns and Un Monde Plus Grand by Fabienne Berthaud (both selected at the Venice Film Festival in 2019), the animated film Avril et le Monde Truqué (Cristal for best film at Annecy 2015), as well as more than twenty shorts films.

In parallel to film music, Valentin multiplies artistic collaborations by composing for ballets (for several creations of the choreographer Jérémy Tran), film concerts (compositions on the Mélies’ films played recently at the Opera of Lyon), projects of virtual reality, documentaries. In recent years, Valentin has been regularly nominated and awarded for his music in major European festivals and events: The World Soundtrack Awards, the Monstra Lisbon FF, the Ensor, the UCMF Awards, the France-Musique Awards.
