Jocelyn Pook
Guest of Honor
With music that invites listeners to cross the boundaries of sound and emotion, Jocelyn Pook has established herself as one of the most distinctive voices in film composition today.
As a British violist and composer with an unconventional career path, she moves seamlessly between film, stage, and concert music, crafting a unique signature that blends classical instruments, mesmerizing vocals, and electroacoustic textures.
She gained international recognition with her hypnotic score for Stanley Kubrick’s Eyes Wide Shut, which brought her worldwide acclaim. She went on to compose the music for The Merchant of Venice by Michael Radford, Brick Lane by Sarah Gavron, The Wife by Björn Runge, and even contributed a piece to Martin Scorsese’s Gangs of New York. Her work, often characterized by haunting vocal influences and a deep sense of storytelling, has earned her a BAFTA, a Golden Globe, and two British Composer Awards.
Having collaborated with Peter Gabriel, Massive Attack, and Laurie Anderson, Jocelyn Pook continues to shape a musical language that transcends traditional boundaries. Whether on screen or on stage, her compositions create atmospheres of rare intensity, where every note seems to tell a story.
For her carte blanche, Jocelyn Pook has selected two beloved classics: Eyes Wide Shut and The Merchant of Venice. The latter follows a merchant forced to borrow money from his rival, exploring themes of justice, power, and revenge in a chiaroscuro Venice. A Shakespearean drama carried by a masterful Al Pacino and a score that heightens its every emotion.
